If it makes you feel any better, my painting work had an incredible jump in quality after I STOPPED for a while. When I did "Luminous" and "Lot" when you and I lived at the Sidekick's Lounge, they were far better than anything in high school, and the first I'd done since then. And when I started again in Chicago (again, about three or four years of almost no painting), I'd improved again! I think taking time away, and working on other projects, other media, gives you new ideas for how to approach painting. At least, that's how it worked for me.
